Hokies offer rising star
Virginia Tech extended a few offers in the past few days. One of those went to a talented prospect out-of-state for the 2012 recruiting class. The offer is the fourth for the star recruit.
"Virginia Tech offered me right after the camp was done," Olney (Md.) Good Counsel 2012 wide receiver Stefon Diggs said. "I think I'm going on four offers, I have Pittsburgh, Maryland and UCLA is coming. They said they are going to wait to offer me until I come down."
Diggs enjoyed his brief time over the weekend in Blacksburg.
"Virginia Tech was really, really nice," he stated. "I found it to be a mellow area, it wasn't too loud. I liked it a lot. I'm considering all my offers, but I'm considering Virginia Tech a lot, it's close to home."
It was Diggs first visit to Tech and he went further about the trip.
"What stuck out to me the most was when I kind of visited the dorms," he said. "I went to Kyle Fuller's dorm and got to see some of the campus, it looked really nice. I got a vibe from the coaches there too; it was kind of a family. They look out for their players there that got my attention.
"I got to talk to the wide receiver coach and the defensive back coach, they are really good people. It was nice talking to them and they coached me up a bit. The wide receivers coach (Sherman) said he liked my route running and how I was real smooth the way I went about it. He liked my hands too and said I was good at catching the ball."
The wideout isn't ruling out a trip back to Blacksburg sometime soon.
"I was going to come down sometime to see the campus some more," he said. "I'll probably go back soon. I've got to get in contact with the wide receiver coach and maybe I'll come down with Kendall Fuller again."
Tech isn't the first offer for Diggs, so how do the Hokies stack up?
"This one is up there," he said. "They are all equal caliber, but Virginia Tech sticks out to me. It's close to home and there's something about it that catches my eye. It's just the vibe I've gotten, the family down there and the coaches look out for their players. I know Kyle Fuller and Ricardo Young. I talk to them all the time. Al I've got to say is that I'm considering the Hokies."
Diggs is considering a possible visit to Pittsburgh sometime in the not too distant future as well.
Meanwhile, with offers beginning to pick up, what does he want in a school?
"I'm looking for that vibe," he said. "I'm big on family and a school that is looking out for your back. I want to major in psychology and want to see where it ranks out of those schools. Local would be nice so my mom can see me, but if I'm wanted somewhere else and it suits me I'll go."
One other school appears to be catching Diggs eye early in Miami.
"I like Miami a lot," he said. "I went down there and liked the atmosphere. It was real nice and they are up there with the Hokies."
