Dorial Green-Beckham visits Alabama
Because of a family medical situation, wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham hasn't really gotten the chance to dive into the recruiting process and start looking at prospective schools yet.
With a week off for his spring break, the Springfield, Mo., native was able to get away for a couple of days this week and visit the campuses of Ole Miss and Alabama. He and his head coach John Beckham traveled to Tuscaloosa for the day on Wednesday.
"We had a good time," John Beckham said. "Everything was very well laid out and planned. We had an opportunity to visit the academic center and the stadium. We spent a lot of time with Coach (Nick) Saban.
We had an opportunity to meet Julio Jones. We shot some pool with Julio, and that was an unexpected surprise. (Dorial) really enjoyed that.
"We had a cool moment. While Julio was shooting pool, there was a TV screen behind him, and ESPN was talking about him, as far as the draft and everything. Julio was a nice young man and very gracious. It was a nice surprise."
Green-Beckham already has an offer from nearly every major college football program in the country, and many believe he'll be the top-ranked prospect nationally when Rivals comes out with its rankings. He was already named one of the first five-star prospects last week by Rivals.
His coach knows there are a lot of different factors to look at when choosing a school and wants to make sure Green-Beckham is absolutely sure of where he wants to go when he makes his decision.
"When choosing a school, I think there's a lot in play," Beckham said. "You're always looking for a fit athletically. Is it the kind of team you want to play for? You're looking for a fit academically, a good place logistically. There's just a lot in play."
With that said, he also believes Alabama should be right in the mix.
"Football-wise, I don't think there's any question Alabama meets the criteria he's looking for," Beckham said. "He wants to play at a school where he's going to be challenged, be able to play in big games and maybe play for a national championship."
