Four-star OL takes official visit
The University of Alabama only has one offensive lineman committed in the 2012 class right now, but a number of high profile lineman were on campus for the LSU game, including four-star Avery Young.
Young, a native of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., recently narrowed his list down to Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Oklahoma and Virginia Tech, and last weekend's official visit was his first trip to Tuscaloosa.
"It was nice, great atmosphere and all," Young said. "I walked around and saw all of the facilities, the weight room, the practice field and how everything works. Everything looked real good. It was real nice, a great place."
Young visited Auburn recently for the Ole Miss game and named the Tigers his leader, but Alabama closed the gap after his visit to UA and Saturday's LSU game was the most intense game he's ever been to.
"I don't think some of the NFL teams have fans that are that wild," Young said. "It was great. That was the first game that I had been to that was that intense."
Because it was his official visit, Young got to spend a little extra time with the Crimson Tide coaching staff and the other recruits who were taking official visits. It was a chance for the Rivals100 prospect to have a good time and find out what Alabama has to offer.
"It was real fun," Young said. "Coach (Nick) Saban is a real laid-back guy when he's off the field. It was a great place. I had a lot of fun, played basketball and pool with the guys. It was a really good experience.
"(Saban) was just telling me how he runs the program and everything. They have a really healthy group of left tackles, but he said most of them are graduating soon, so if somebody wants to come in and work at it, they will be able to play."
In addition to playing time, Young is looking for a school where he's comfortable and could spend the next four or five years at.
"I really just want to find a place where I can get along with the people and figure out if I want to spend four or five years there," he said.
The Florida standout plans to visit Georgia in two weeks for the Kentucky game and plans to wait until National Signing Day before making a decision.
