November 25, 2012Louisville, the nation's No. 2 team took its first loss Saturday night against Duke. On Sunday, the Cardinals took a second loss as X-rays revealed center Gorgui Dieng has a broken wrist.
Dieng, who landed on the wrist badly after taking a charge against Missouri Friday night, was assessed once the Cardinals came back from the Bahamas Sunday.
According to the University, an x-ray taken at Jewish Hospital revealed a broken scaphoid bone in his left wrist. His prognosis will be updated after further examination from a hand specialist on Monday.
Typical recovery times for a broken wrist are six to eight weeks, though recovery times could vary. Dieng is right handed, but not having the full use of his left hand would be a detriment when he returns to action.
Dieng is averaging 8.2 points, 8.0 rebounds and two rebounds through five games this season. He produced his 13th career double-double against Samford with 10 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 blocks and 3 steals. Dieng is a preseason All-Big East selection and he is among the top 50 preseason candidates for the Wooden Award and Naismith Award.
