Louisville to face Florida in the Sugar Bowl
The University of Louisville's championship season will continue in the same place the men's basketball team left off - New Orleans. The Cardinals will face Florida in the Sugar Bowl.
The Cardinals earned a share of the Big East Championship and the league's automatic BCS bowl berth with a win over Rutgers Thursday night. But it wasn't until Sunday evening that they knew where they'd be playing.
The Big East Champion often goes to the Orange Bowl - as the Cardinals did in 2007 - but because Northern Illinois broke into the top 16 of the BCS standings, they knocked out another major conference team.
That made Louisville the best choice available for the Sugar Bowl when the BCS bowls made their picks Sunday. The story lines are easy:
Louisville coach Charlie Strong helped Florida win two national titles and was an assistant with the Gators for years. Now he'll have a chance to knock off his former team.
The Cardinals will likely be a significant underdog as Florida finished in the top 5 of the BCS standings. The Gators are 11-1 and are favored by nearly 20 points in Jeff Sagarin's computer formula.
Louisville sophomore quarterback phenom Teddy Bridgewater is the most efficient quarterback in the Big East, and one of the top QBs in the nation. He'll be squaring off against Florida's No. 1 ranked passing efficiency defense.
