Now it begins - Abel's musings on hoops

Okay, now it's time for the season to actually get rolling. And unlike past years, it's going to start with some very heady early competition for the Bruins.

Injuries pretty much dismantled the Bruins' pre-season preparations. In fact, the true pre-season consisted not of the exhibition period, but rather the first three games of the regular season. The Bruins won two of those, against very weak opposition, and in doing so appear to be, coming together and finding out how they are going to shape up as a team.

They started with only 12 of their allotted 13 scholarships filled. (They dealt with that by awarding a scholarship for this year to the very deserving former walk-on from St Louis, redshirt junior point guard Mustafa Abdul-Hamid, who chose walking-on at UCLA over attending Harvard.)
