John Theus made no bones about it. When Georgia coach Mark Richt offered him a scholarship Saturday, he didn't really know what to say.
"I was pretty excited about it," said Theus, a 6-foot-6, 275-pound tackle from Jacksonville, one of Florida's budding young stars for the Class of 2012.
"After camp, Coach (Stacy) Searels went over and sat down. That's when Coach (Mark) Richt sat down, talked to me and my dad and told me I had an offer," Theus said. "He said he'd love to have me come."
Theus said he's already intrigued with the possibility.
The latest in a continuing line of stars from the famed Bolles School in Jacksonville, Theus said he came to Athens this weekend not 100 percent certain if he would leave with an offer.
"I wasn't sure but I was hoping for one," said Theus. "I did think if I went out and performed well that I would be able to earn one. Fortunately, I was able to do well and it paid off."
No stranger to Athens, Theus has already been on campus five times in the last year, including two football games last fall.
"It's just a great feel and Coach Searels is a great guy," said Theus, who also holds offers from Arkansas, South Carolina, Florida State and Maryland. "I've been to a couple of their (Georgia's) practices and those guys always bust their butt, they work hard, and do whatever it takes to be successful."
Theus may not be the only one in his family to receive a Bulldog offer.
Older brother Nathan Theus is a 6-foot-5, 255-pound offensive lineman is a 2011 prospect, who like younger sibling John, has an offer from South Carolina.
According to sources, the Bulldogs are considering making Nathan Theus an offer as well, perhaps as soon as early next week.
John Theus said the opportunity to play with his brother is something both really want to do. In fact, that opportunity could well determine which school he eventually decides to sign with.
"That's a tough question," John Theus said. "It's (playing together) is definitely one of our priorities. It's probably a make or break."
