2012 ATH nearing decision

Among the most intriguing versatile athletes in the 2012 class is Mobile (AL) Faith Academy star Chris Casher. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound prospect stars at both wide receiver and defensive end for Faith Academy and has picked up the attention of a number of the South's top programs with a dominant junior season.

"I finished the season with 8 sacks and around 70 tackles," Casher said. "I definitely could have done some things better but I was proud of my work this year. Unfortunately, our team didn't make it to the playoffs but we really came together as a team as the season went on and I think you learn a lot more about yourself going through the lows of a season than you do going through the highs. Hopefully, we can come back next year as a better team because of what we learned."

Casher, who picked up early offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida State and Georgia, continues to receive more and more recruiting attention as his film begins to circulate among the nation's top programs.

"Arkansas and Tennessee have offered me now too and my coach LSU will be sending an offer soon also. Pretty much everyone is recruiting me to play defense and most of them see me as a linebacker because of my speed and my awareness. I'm pretty comfortable with that and really I just want to play whatever position that allows me to make the biggest difference on the field."

"I've also got something like 50 letters I haven't had a chance to open yet. I have really be kind of laid back about recruiting so far because I didn't really want to get distracted by it during the season but I'm probably going to start taking it a little more seriously now that the season is over."

Although Casher has yet to name any finalists or leaders, he plans on making a final decision relatively soon.

"I have decided I really want to go ahead and deal with my decision early so that I can stay focused on school, basketball and football and not worry about recruiting for the next year. I am going to narrow it down soon here and try to make a decision sometime in January."

Before narrowing down his list, Casher plans on taking one final visit to a college game later this week.

"I've been to the Alabama-Florida game and the Auburn-LSU game and this week I'm going to the Iron Bowl. I really don't know who's going to win right now. It should be a great game. Both teams are playing great heading into it so it's really too tough to call it right now. I can't wait to see how it turns out."
