Rutgers gets huge commit

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights need offensive linemen in the class of 2012 and they need good ones. On Thursday afternoon, they got great news as one of the top lineman in the country decided on Greg Sciano's team over some other huge offers.

"I committed to Rutgers today," said 6-foot-6, 287-pound offensive tackle Chris Muller from Boyertown (Pa.) Boyertown Area Senior. "It came down to the people there, I really bonded well with the players at Rutgers and I love the coaching staff as well. With coach Schiano there I know they will go to a bowl game every year and they will have a chance to win the Big East every year."

Muller chose Rutgers over offers from Penn State, Florida, Notre Dame, Boston College, Michigan, Michigan State and many others. While the Nittany Lions led for quite some time, his recent visit to Rutgers changed everything.

"I visited and stayed overnight and spent a lot of time with the players," he said. "I just had more in common with them then I did with everyone at Penn State and I felt more at home. They treat you like a real individual and not just a cog in the machine. It has a special feel about it there."

Muller called Schiano today and the reaction was priceless.

"The coaches including coach Schiano were screaming," he said. "It was nice that they were so excited because I'm excited about the decision. This just feels right."

Muller will work on others to join him at Rutgers.

"I'll do some recruiting," he said. "I'll just tell other kids why I felt Rutgers was right for me and why I chose them and let them make their own decision, but I hope this can help."

And what about his good friend and fellow offensive lineman J.J. Denman who is already committed to Penn State?

"I don't want to be the guy to talk anyone into de-committing, it has to be their decision," he said. "I'll talk to J.J. and tell him my reasons and if he wants to stick with Penn State that's great. But if he wants to join me at Rutgers that's great too. Everyone has to make their own choice."

For Muller, his choice is final.

"I feel great about it," he said. "I'm done, I'm going to be a left tackle at Rutgers and try to help the program get to some special things because I believe it can."

Muller is ranked as the No. 12 offensive tackle in the country and is No. 69 overall in the country. He is the 6th commitment for 2012 for Rutgers and clearly the best get so far.
