Four-star ATH Jones commits to Alabama

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. | The University of Alabama added yet another playmaker to its 2012 recruiting class on Thursday when Rivals250 athlete Cyrus Jones committed to the Crimson Tide over Virginia Tech at the Under Armour All-America Game.

Jones worked out at defensive back all week but plans to move to the offensive side of the ball, specifically slot receiver, when he gets to Tuscaloosa.

The Baltimore native informed the UA coaching staff on Wednesday, the day before the game.

"They were real excited," Jones said. "They pretty much knew they were one of my top two teams, so it was either going to be them or the other school. It was a 50-50 chance, and they were just happy that 50 was them."

Jones joins an already strong wide receiver class that features Chris Black, Amari Cooper, Casey Gladney and converted defensive back Eddie Williams. Cooper and Williams played alongside Jones at the Under Armour game.

As a senior at Gilman School, the 5-foot-11, 183-pound playmaker rushed for 948 yards and 13 touchdowns, caught 39 passes for 635 yards and six touchdowns and also finished with 782 yards and four scores in the return game.
