Miles wants to make Army Bowl statement

MORE ARMY BOWL: Miles on The Ride | Tour home

After performing so well in his junior season, in numerous camps and the Elite 11 this past summer, Cyler Miles has developed the reputation as being one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the country.

Rivals.com rates him second in that category and No. 41 in the 2012 class and Thursday the Denver (Colo.) Mullen received even more recognition when he was presented with his U.S. Army All-American Bowl jersey during a presentation at his high school.

"I'm very excited," Miles said. "It's a big honor to be in a game like this and it makes me really want to step back and be thankful for all the opportunities I was given in my life.

"It's just a great honor and I'm very excited to go to San Antonio to showcase my skills and it's going to be a good time."

Rated as the second-best prospect in the Colorado state rankings, Miles said he's looking forward to many things during Army week but maybe the biggest is his opportunity to represent his home state. Players from Colorado don't get the recognition they deserve, Miles said, and he wants to prove those guys can play football, too.

There's no bigger setting than during Army week, with the game televised nationally, so the 6-foot-4, 220-pound four-star prospect will have ample opportunities to show off his skills.

"That's a big thing for me to represent Colorado a little bit," Miles said. "Colorado is not the top football state on the map so that will be good to rep Colorado and maybe people will start thinking about it a little bit more.

"At the high school level nobody gets top players at every position no matter what state you're in. I don't care if you're in California or Texas. Nobody gets the best players, all 11 on defense and offense.

"It's going to be a challenge and I'm looking forward to the challenge. It's just going to be great playing with all those top guys in the nation. It will be an interesting game. I'm willing to step up to the challenge."

On the recruiting front, Miles wrapped things up in June when he committed to Washington over offers from Arizona State, Arkansas, Clemson, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Pitt, Tennessee and many others.

Some believed he would reconsider his recruitment or possibly take other official visits especially because Washington already had four-star quarterback Jeff Lindquist in the class - he committed about a month before Miles - but the Denver Mullen standout has not backed away from his pledge and doesn't intend to.

Miles, who threw for 2,130 yards with 20 touchdowns and only two interceptions in his junior season, is taking his official visit to Washington this weekend for its big matchup against Oregon and he said it's the only trip he's taking.

There is no consideration of looking around because Miles said he found everything he was looking for with the Huskies.

"I'm set with Washington," Miles said. "It was a great relief when I did it. I did it right before football season for a reason and it's just nice to get it out of the way and know which school I'm going to.

"It's going to be crazy up there this weekend. They're playing a top team and it's going to be rocking. I'm very excited to go up there and hang with the coaches and the players that I'm going to be with for the next four or five years. It's going to be a great atmosphere and I'm looking forward to it."
