FSU announces pre-spring position changes
Some old faces will be in new places as Florida State kicks up spring practice next month.
Florida State announced position changes for three current players on Monday. Safety Nick Moody will move to outside linebacker, defensive end Dan Hicks will move to tight end and defensive tackle Cameron Erving will line up at offensive line in 2012.
According to the FSU release, Moody, already a hard hitter in the secondary, has bulked up to 242 pounds for the move. Moody had 23 tackles in nine games last season - missing four games with a leg injury - and has 135 tackles in 35 career games.
Erving was impressive in limited work at a deep defensive tackle position as a redshirt freshman last season, racking up 20 tackles and a sack. He will wear No. 75 in the spring.
Hicks moves over to the offensive side of the ball after seeing action as a reserve defensive end the past two seasons. Only two scholarship players returned at tight end - Nick O'Leary and Will Tye entering the spring, so depth was an issue there. Depth shouldn't be a problem at defensive end in 2012 as Brandon Jenkins and Bjoern Werner return. The Seminoles also signed two of the top defensive end recruits in the nation in Mario Edwards Jr. and Chris Casher.
Hicks will switch his jersey number from No. 58 to No. 6 next season.
Rumors had swirled over a possible move to running back for highly regarded safety Karlos Williams, but the rising sophomore will be staying on defense.
Other new jersey numbers include: DB Tyler Hunter (1), RB Mario Pender (7), P Cason Beatty (38) and OL Daniel Glauser (67).
