Mangok officially joins UofL basketball team

Louisville coach Rick Pitino confirmed the addition of 6-foot-10 Sudanese big man Mangok Mathiang Wednesday.

Mathiang (whose first name is pronounced MANE-go like the fruit) enrolled at UofL over the weekend and joined the team for its welcome back meeting Monday.

"Mangok is extremely quick and agile for a 6-10 player," Pitino said via press release Wednesday. "He has a great future because of the way he moves at both the offensive and defensive ends. We're excited to have him as a part of our program."

After playing last season with the post-graduate team at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., Mathiang burst onto Louisville's radar earlier this summer. Then, three weeks ago, IMG tweeted that Mathiang had signed with Louisville.

Wednesday Louisville confirmed his enrollment. He has been on campus since the fall semester began at UofL on Monday.

After reclassifying to the 2012 recruiting class, Mathiang chose Louisville over offers from Kansas State, Georgia, Mississippi State, Auburn and Central Michigan. He averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots for IMG last season on a team with 11 other Division I signees.
