Cardinal Stars of the Week

This week's Cardinal Stars include sophomore sensation Teddy Bridgewater, big-time hitter Lola Arslanbekova and a former UofL golfer who is on the Web.com Tour.

TEDDY BRIDGEWATER - FOOTBALL
The sensational sophomore from Miami threw for 424 yards and three touchdowns in Louisville's 45-26 loss to Syracuse last Saturday. Bridgewater connected on 36 of 49 passes with one interception. He is currently No. 5 in the nation in passing efficiency. He has passed for 2,858 yards and 21 touchdowns with just four interceptions. He is averaging 285.8 passing yards per game with a 70.9 completion percentage.

LOLA ARSLANBEKOVA - VOLLEYBALL
The senior from Tashkent, Uzbekistan, was named Big East Volleyball Player of the Week for the final week of the 2012 regular season. It marks the fifth time the Big East Preseason Player of the Year has earned the award this season. Arslanbekova led the Cardinals to victories over Marquette and Cincinnati. In the 3-0 sweep against the Golden Eagles on Nov. 9 she had 15 kills on 31 attempts for a .355 hitting percentage. She added two digs and two block assists. On Nov. 11 against the Bearcats she recorded 13 kills in three sets, with seven digs and one solo block. In the two games she averaged 4.67 kills and 2.17 digs per set with a .290 hitting percentage. Arslanbekova and the Cardinals (25-3, 14-1) will face St. John's (20-11, 7-8) Friday in the Big East Tournament in Milwaukee. The Cardinals have earned a spot in the Big East Tournament every year since joining the league in 2005 and have made it to the final in six of the last seven Big East Championship matches.

SHONI SCHIMMEL - WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The junior from Mission, Ore., scored 16 points during No. 9 Louisville's 95-48 victory over Portland Sunday at the KFC Yum! Center. Schimmel was 7 of 11 from the field with two threes, four assists, two rebounds and three turnovers in just 22 minutes. Schimmel was the focus of No. 15/12 Texas A&M's defense in the season opener. She finished with just eight points of 3-of-10 shooting with a pair of three-pointers. She had four assists and two steals but committed six turnovers.

ADAM HADWIN - MEN'S GOLF
The former Louisville All-American golfer finished a successful season on the Web.com Tour for professional players who have not qualified to play on the PGA Tour full-time. Hadwin finished 30th on the money list, winning $168,713 in 25 events. The Abbotsford, British Columbia, native finished in third-place twice this past season and posted four top-10 and eight top-25 finishes. Hadwin turned pro in 2009 after an outstanding career under the direction of Louisville coach Mark Crabtree.

ERNEST KIBET - MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
The freshman from Eldoret, Kenya, finished his freshman season last Saturday with a 28th-place finish in the NCAA Southeast Regional at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, N.C. Kibet finished the 10K race in 30:51.58. He was the fourth-fastest freshman in the region. Two weeks ago Kibet became just the third freshman in Louisville history to earn all-Big East honors with a fifth-place finish at the Big East Championships. Louisville finished 10th as a team, with fellow freshman Japhet Kipkoech finishing 51st, junior Mattias Wolter 75th, freshman Edwin Kibichiy 76th and senior Gordon Dooley 98th.

EMILY HAAS - WOMEN'S GOLF
The sophomore from Nicholasville, Ky., carded a 3-over-par 75 in the final round of the 2012 Alamo Invitational in San Antonio, Texas, to finish tied for 10th. Haas carded a 2-under 214 for the tournament. The Louisville women's golf team shot a 303 in the final round to finish 11th in the 15-team field with a score of 894. The three-day event ended the Cardinals' fall season. Junior Tara Lyons also shot a 75 in the third round and finished tied for 25th with a 3-over 219. Freshman Laura Restrepo fired a 75 in the third round to finish at 230 and tied for 56th. The Cardinals open their spring slate at the UCF Challenge held from Feb. 10-12 in Sorrento, Fla.
