Feb. 13: Cardinal Stars of the Week

Each week, CardinalSports.com's Howie Lindsey picks a handful of Louisville student-athletes whose performances merit applause. These are the Cardinal Stars of the Week.

KAYLIN MORRISSETTE - WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Following a stellar collegiate debut, the Bowmanville, Ont., native earned WomensLax.com Rookie of the Week honors, the Illinois-based organization announced Monday. A true freshman, Morissette led the team in its 13-3 victory over Canisius with four goals on seven shots and helped give head coach Kellie Young her 100th career victory. Morissette also tallied two ground balls and was credited with a game-high four caused turnovers. Three of Morissette's goals came before the halftime break. Morrissette was co-captain for the U-19 Canadian National Lacrosse Team and helped lead the squad to a bronze medal at the U-19 World Cup in Hannover, Germany, last summer. Morissette was named to the All-World Team and earned MVP honors in the bronze-medal game.

CHANE BEHANAN - MEN'S BASKETBALL
The sophomore from Cincinnati, scored 30 points and had 15 rebounds during Lousville's 104-101 loss at Notre Dame Saturday night. Behanan was 13 of 20 shooting and had two blocks, a steal, an assist and four turnovers in 56 minutes of playing time. Unfortunately, he was only 4 of 9 from the foul line. So far this season Behanan is second on the team in scoring with 11.2 points per game. His 7.5 rebounds per game trail only Gorgui Dieng's 9.9 per game. Behanan is third on the team in steals with 38.

KATIE KELLER - SOFTBALL
The junior from Livermore, Calif., tied a school record with seven RBIs and had two home runs to lead Louisville to a 16-8 six-inning victory over Minnesota Sunday at the UNLV Sportco Kick-Off Classic. Louisville (4-1) got a school-record 21 hits in the game, including a 3-for-4 effort by Keller. She had two home runs and a double and tied a school record with four runs scored. She was named Big East Player of the Week Monday. Keller, a second baseman, hit .529 (9 for 17) with four home runs and two doubles last week. She drove in 13 runs.

KATELYN MANN - SOFTBALL
The third baseman from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., went 4 for 4 with a home run against Minnesota Sunday. Mann scored two runs and had two RBIs. Mann played in 34 games with 27 starts at third base or designated hitter last season. She hit .273 with 12 runs and 10 RBIs, and she was 3 for 3 with an RBI in the 4-3 win over Notre Dame in the finals of the Big East Tournament. Mann was named to the Dean's List and the Athletic Director's honor roll in the fall and spring and was selected to the Big East All-Academic Team. She is a NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete.

NICK DE LEON - MEN'S SOCCER
The former Louisville star has been called up by Trinidad and Tobago for its Feb. 6 friendly match with Peru. DeLeon earned his first international match cap and is eligible to play for the country through his father, Leroy DeLeon, one of Trinidad and Tobago's most celebrated players. An All-Big East selection both as a junior and senior at Louisville, DeLeon was taken in the first round of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft by DC United. He finished his rookie season with DC United with six goals and four assists. He scored the game-winner in the 88th minute against New York in the Eastern Conference semifinals. DeLeon finished second in the MLS Rookie of the Year rankings.

CARYLE BLONDELL - MEN'S SWIMMING
The sophomore from San Fernando Hill, Trinidad, was named Men's Big East Swimmer of the Week last week for the second time this season. Blondell took home two individual first-place finishes, placing first in the 50-freestyle with a mark of 20.22 seconds and taking the 100-freestyle in 44.31 seconds. Blondell also led the 400-freestyle relay team with a leadoff split of 43.87 as the squad set a pool record in 2:57.08, a full four seconds ahead of the field. He also was a member of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that beat No. 6 Indiana on Feb. 2.

KELSI WORRELL - WOMEN'S SWIMMING
The freshman from Mt. Holly, N.J., earned her second Women's Big East Swimmer of the Week honor last week. Worrell won two individual events with NCAA provisional-qualifying marks against No. 13 Indiana on Feb. 2 and was also the leadoff leg of the 400-freestyle relay team that placed second. The freshman set provisional qualifying marks in the 100 and 200 freestyles. She won the 100 in 49.78 seconds and the 200 in 1:47.29. As a member of the 400-freestyle relay team, Worrell swam the leadoff leg in 50.39 seconds as the team placed second in 3:22.61.
