Louisville women continue to shock college basketball

Louisville women's basketball's remarkable run in the NCAA Tournament continued Sunday night with a 64-57 win over California.

The Cardinals came from 10 down to beat the Bears with the help of six threes by Antonita Slaughter.

"She's the best stand-still shooter on our team," Louisville coach Jeff Walz said. "Shoni makes a lot of shots, but Antonita is such a great shooter that we tell her she has to shoot every time she is open."

And she did. Slaughter hit 6 of 10 threes and continued Louisville's most amazing run in school history. The Cardinals knocked off the most dominant team in college basketball in Baylor in the Sweet 16 then beat women's college basketball's most historically dominant program, Tennessee, in the Elite Eight.

They beat a fiesty Cal team in the national semifinal. UofL was out-rebounded 38-26, outscored in the paint 32-18 and had five fewer field goals, but the Cardinals hit 8 threes and were 14 of 19 from the line.

Louisville became the first fifth seed to ever win a game in the women's Final Four. The Cardinals advanced to the national title game for the second time in school history.

"We're just going to tip it up Monday and.... why not?" Walz said.
