Texas offers Charlie Strong

Charlie Strong is expected to be named the new football coach at the University of Texas according to Chip Brown of the Rivals.com site Orangebloods.com and several other sources.

While no confirmation has come from either the University of Texas or the University of Louisville, both Rivals.com and 247 sources have confirmed that Strong will be offered the job and Texas expects him to accept the offer.

Strong, who has led Louisville to back-to-back bowl wins and two of the most successful seasons in school history, leaves Louisville after four seasons on campus.

This season, Louisville started in the top 10, fell nearly out of the top 25 after losing to UCF and recovered to win 12 games and crush Miami in the Russell Athletic Bowl. Last season, Louisville capped a conference championship season with a surprising win over then-No. 4 Florida in the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.

Strong, who was making nearly $4 million per season this year, has a buyout that will pay Louisville $4.375 million if he leaves before the end of June.

A longtime assistant coach, Strong credited Louisville for giving his first head coaching job in 2010 and said he was not thinking about any other jobs when he was asked in late December.

But after interviewing with Texas on Tuesday, Strong quickly became the focus of the Longhorn's nationwide coaching search and was named a finalist - along with Vanderbilt coach James Franklin - earlier Friday by Orangebloods.com.
