JuCo safety adds to UofL's 2014 class

Louisville has added several late additions to the 2014 class, and San Mateo C.C. safety Isaac Watson made a verbal commitment on Monday night.

"I just verballed and they should be sending over the letter of intent today," Watson told CardinalSports.com.

Louisville has been in contact with coaches at San Mateo for a while to inquire about Watson, but Watson's first contact with the Cardinals was when safeties coach Greg Brown visited San Mateo for a spring practice.

"A couple of weeks ago before practice my coach let me know Louisville was interested and said they would be coming to check me out."

Brown continued to recruit Watson, and the 6-foot-2, 225-pound safety likes his future position coach's pedigree.

"Coach Brown coached Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Mark Barron, and Dre Kirkpatrick. Being under his coaching, I feel like I can really progress at the safety position and become the player I should be.

"He's been telling me there's a need at the safety position. I've only played safety for a year, but I've been coached well by the defensive backs coach here. So a lot of the techniques I've got down well, but I still have a lot of work to do and have a lot of upside to my game. He wants me to come in and earn my spot. I know I have to go in there and work."

Watson, who graduated from San Mateo last semester, will visit Louisville next weekend. He will look to enroll at Louisville for the summer semester.

With signing day of 2014 nearly three months behind him, Watson is thrilled to find a home in a college with the pedigree of Louisville.

"It's a big relief. I always wanted to play big time football. I've been through a lot and this has always been my dream. I have a lot of younger family members and just to be a positive influence on them is a blessing."

When Watson signs he will become the 25th signee of the 2014 class.
