Thingstad commits to Louisville

Louisville landed a big commitment - literally and figuratively - from offensive tackle Troy Thingstad on Tuesday night. He chose the Cardinals over the likes of Kentucky and South Carolina.

"To be honest, I made an educated decision. I weighed out all of my options, and it - to me in my heart of hearts and logically - felt like the perfect decision." The 2015 prospect from Mobile (Ala.) St. Paul's High School visited Louisville for junior day on April 5th. He loved his visit, and his interest in the Cardinals grew in a big way after that.

"They have a great education program. Coach (Bobby) Petrino is just impressive. He coaches everything about the player - the person, student, and athlete. He accepts nothing but your personal best, and is a very intense coach. That's what I want."

Thingstad is able to play on both sides of the line, and will give the Cards versatility.

"They offered me as an offensive tackle, but that's what's going to be on paper," the 6-foot-6, 275-pound lineman explained. "As coach Terrell (Buckley) has said - 'we want you as an offensive tackle, but when you get to camp and if you look more like a defensive guy, we're going to switch you.' Basically, it's whatever is best for the team and I'm on board with that."

Defensive backs coach Terrell Buckley recruited Thingstad, and after the junior day they really hit it off.

"We talked on the phone three or four times, we talked on Twitter, and we talked through the mail. We talked every way we could. They didn't pressure me into anything. They didn't hammer me down on anything. I came to the decision on my own and I just felt like it was the right place."

In this day in age of recruiting, a verbal commitment can change within the blink of an eye, but for Troy Thingstad - that doesn't seem to be the case.

"I made my decision and that's my next home. After we win states and have a successful senior year - I'm going to Louisville."

Thingstad joins Olive Branch (Miss.) defensive back T.J. Jallow as Louisville's 2015 verbal commitments.
