Georgia star recruit looking to transfer

One of the top recruits in the 2013 class is leaving an SEC school and Louisville might be his new home.

Georgia safety Tray Matthews, one of the top 5 athletes in Georgia in 2013, posted on Twitter that he is going to transfer from Georgia.

On Wednesday, Georgia coach Mark Richt told the Macon Telegraph that he was hoping to see Matthews turn the corner this summer.

"I think he's on a turning point of maturing some, and becoming a very dependable guy," Richt said while attending SEC meetings. "I'm not saying he is a dependable guy, or has been at this point. But I have a feeling that that's his desire to become that. And he needs to. It's time."

Matthews had an offseason arrest and was working his way back from being benched by the new defensive coordinator, but Richt said he was hopeful for Matthews' future. But less than a week later, it appears Matthews will be leaving Georgia for either Auburn or Louisville.

Matthews played in eight games last season before sitting out with a hamstring injury.

Two weeks ago, Matthews was the guest of honor at a Special Olympics bowling event in his hometown of Newnan, Ga.

"I'm glad to be here and to see these beautiful kids and their parents," said Matthews at the start of the tournament. "It's my pleasure to be here. Have fun. My mom always tells me about all these kids who look up to me. I felt I had to be here. I just love being here around these kids and their smiles."

Matthews presented a local stuent with the Henry Seldon Award for Outstanding Sportsmanship in the Classroom and on the Field.
