3-star RB commits to Louisville

Louisville is hot on the recruiting trail.

They've added six of their eight 2015 verbal commitments in the month of June, with Irmo (SC) Dutch Fork running back Matt Colburn being the latest commitment. The three-star prospect told CardinalSports.com why he decided to commit.

"I've been doing a lot of soul searching the past few weeks," Colburn said. "I did take into consideration that Louisville is my biggest offer right now, and I've been up there before. I really liked the city and the environment. I really liked everything football-wise.

"With them moving into the ACC, there's a lot of promising things coming with that. Coach (Bobby) Petrino is back and he's an offensive mastermind. He knows what he's doing and he's coached a lot of great running backs. I really felt honored that he took the time to extend an offer to me. I'm really bought in to what they want to do and their goals and ambitions are to win championships starting with their conference."

Linebackers coach Tony Grantham recruits the state of South Carolina for Louisville. Along with Grantham, running backs coach Kolby Smith was a big part of Colburn committing to the Cardinals.

"The coaches are awesome," Colburn said. "Tony Grantham is awesome. He came down to see me in the spring and that was the first time I really ever heard from them. He came down a second time and that stood out to me. We were talking between those intervals and he called me once. We've been chatting it up over Twitter and stuff like that. He's a really nice and personable guy. I have a pretty good relationship with him.

"Coach Smith - he's a character. He's pretty funny. That's what stuck out to me the first time I ever met him up at Louisville a few weeks ago. He was really cool and he's young. He knows what he's doing as far as running backs goes."

Colburn is a little undersized at 5-foot-8, 186-pounds, but has been clocked at a sub 4.4 forty yard dash.

"Louisville is going to get a running back that is bigger than he actually is," Colburn explained. "I have heart and play with a chip on my shoulder."
