Cards land Mississippi wide receiver

The Cardinals already landed G.G. Robinson on Thursday night. The night became better when Pascagoula (Miss.) wide receiver Jaylen Smith informed the Cards' coaching staff that he was going to be committing to Louisville.

"I've been talking a lot with Louisville since they offered," Smith told CardinalSports.com. "One of the big things is that they have about four or five senior receivers leaving. Playing time is big and they also have always been known as a passing offense (under Bobby Petrino). Coach Petrino's reputation is always his offense. That was pretty much the main reason."

Another big reason of Smith's commitment to Louisville was his recruiter, defensive backs coach Terrell Buckley, who graduated from Pascagoula High School, where Smith is set to play his senior season.

"That's really the main guy I talked to. He came down to see me and we talked a lot," Smith said. "It's really great having somebody that is from where I'm from, so he can relate to me while I'm up there."

Smith's visit to Louisville was on April 5th for junior day, and left very impressed as he saw firsthand what Petrino's offense looks like.

"We got to watch the scrimmage. The whole time they were fast paced - passing the ball," he said. "That's what I like and that was big for me."

Smith is happy to commit, but the Cards might have competitors to land Smith's signature in February of 2015, including Nebraska, Arizona State, Cincinnati, and Temple.

"I was going to take visits to any schools that were in my top group that would allow me to," he said. "I didn't get to take a chance to visit very many schools. Louisville was the school that I felt right now was the fit for me. I'm not saying that I'm going to go on a visit and decommit, but I would like to explore my options."
