After visiting Louisville in mid-December, the Iowa native chose Louisville on Dec. 16 and enrolled at UofL three weeks later. Originally slated to go to Iowa out of high school, Young ended up at Iowa Western Community College for a year and now has three seasons of eligibility remaining at Louisville.
With a great frame and sufficient quickness, Young was a hot commodity on the recruiting trail, garnering offers from Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Ole Miss and several others before committing to the Cardinals. He was rated the No. 76 overall junior college prospect in the nation by rivals.com, and JCGridiron.com called him the No. 1 weak-side defensive end in the nation after he recorded 22 tackles for a loss and 13.5 sacks for Iowa Western last season.
Rivals.com's Brad Hoiseth on Young: "When looking for a top weak-side end, our main focus is on speed, size and instincts. This season we saw all of those components in Iowa Western defensive end Trevon Young, and more. Young also has an extra year of eligibility remaining, which made him the easy No. 1 on our board."
