Louisville shines in big four mens sports

The four most-popular men's college sports are football, basketball, baseball and soccer. A remarkably small number of NCAA programs had success in all four major sports.

Only Louisville, North Carolina and Stanford sent their football team to a bowl game and their men's basketball, baseball and men's soccer teams to the NCAA Tournament. Of course, this kind of all sports success isn't anything new to Louisville.

The 2012-13 season became known as "The Year of the Cardinal" after Louisville made NCAA history by sending its football team to a BCS bowl (a win over Florida in the Sugar Bowl), its men's basketball team to the Final Four (a national championship win over Michigan), its women's basketball team to the Final Four (a title game loss to UConn) and its baseball team to the College World Series (after beating Vanderbilt in the Super Regional).

While this season's post-season success wasn't as headline grabbing, the Cardinals remain one of the few programs in America to be good at the top sports at the highest level.

Only Louisville finished with 10 wins in football, 30 wins in basketball and 40 wins in baseball.

A total of 27 schools had success in the two biggest sports - football and basketball.
