Louisville women beat North Carolina by 30
No. 14 Louisville rolled past visiting North Carolina 87-57 Sunday. The Cardinals have won three-straight games and are playing perhaps their best basketball of the season.
REBOUNDING EDGE
Louisville won the first quarter 14-11, and took further control in the second, outscoring the Tarheels 20-10. The Cardinals controlled the glass out-rebounding UNC 52-32 which resulted in 13 more shots for the game.
UofL also out-shot the Heels, making 47.9 percent of its shots while forcing UNC into a paltry 31.7 percent shooting. Louisville used 12 different players and out-scored UNC's bench 27-3.
ASIA'S BACK
Sophomore guard Asia Durr missed Louisville's last game after an unspecified violation of team rules, but she came back Sunday with a statement. The star scorer hit four three-pointers and had 28 points. She also notched four assists and three rebounds. Durr scored a point per minute she was on the court.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE
Junior power forward Myisha Hines-Allen continued to rack up double-doubles, recording 19 points and 12 rebounds vs. North Carolina Sunday. Sunday was her 12th double-double of the season after grabbing 13 rebounds and scoring 10 points during Louisville's win over Boston College last Sunday.
SENIOR NIGHT
The Cardinals will host Virginia (18-9, 7-7) Thursday night at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville for Senior Night. Louisville coach Jeff Walz will honor seniors Cortnee Walton and Briahanna Jackson in a pregame ceremony.
JUST TWO GAMES LEFT
After hosting Virginia, Louisville's lone remaining regular-season game is at Wake Forest on Sunday. The ACC Women's Basketball Tournament will be held in Conway, S.C., March 1-5. All the games will be held at the HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina.
SEEDING WILL BE INTERESTING
Louisville has a Top 15 RPI and is considered one of the Top 15 teams in the country, but the Cardinals likely won't be a top-4 seed in the ACC Tournament. League leaders No. 7 Notre Dame, No. 4 Florida State and No. 13 Duke are too far ahead and Louisville doesn't own the tiebreaker against No. 15 NC State.
It is likely that Louisville is a better seed for the NCAA Tournament than the ACC Tournament.
TV FOR THE TOURNAMENT
The first three days of the tournament (first round, second round and quarterfinals) are set to be carried by the Regional Sports Networks and ACC Network Extra. Saturday afternoon’s semifinal games (noon and 2:30 p.m.) will be carried by ESPNU, with Sunday’s 1 p.m. championship game scheduled to air on ESPN2.
PINK SUIT
Sunday was Louisville's Think Pink game, honoring the fight against Breast Cancer. Louisville assistant coach Sam Purcell donned a pink suit. It was spectacular.
