Pio Vatuvei signs with Louisville

College of San Mateo (Cali.) defensive end Pio Vatuvei signed with Louisville on Thursday. It's been twenty-two days since National Signing day, but the Cards landed a big signature from the 6-foot-3, 280-pound junior college prospect.
Vatuvei, who was a Rivals250 prospect in high school, signed with Washington in 2012 with offers from Arizona, Boise State, California, Colorado, Fresno State, Idaho, Nevada, USC, Utah, Utah State and Washington State. He played in nine games for the Huskies.
After being dismissed for a violation of team rules, Vatuvei transferred to San Mateo. Vatuvei recorded 35 total tackles, 20 solo tackles, 8 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
Vatuevei will play defensive end in Todd Grantham
s 3-4 scheme.
Louisville's newest signee visited Fresno State on January 24th and check out Louisville on January 14th.
Brad Hoiseth of had this to say about Pio Vatuvei: "He was the forgotten man in one of the better defensive lines in the country. With all the attention going to Trevor Kelly and Rika Levi, Vatuvei managed to fly under the radar and had a great season. He is an inch or two short of perfect, but quick off the ball and plays with intensity."
