Louisville needed immediate help on the offensive line, and the Cardinals got it in Kelby Johnson. The massive prospect from ASA College chose Louisville over offers from Kansas, Purdue, South Florida and UAB and committed to the Cardinals just a week after picking up his official offer.
Johnson spent a season at Virginia out of high school before enrolling at a junior college. Now he'll be headed back to the ACC to Louisville, Virginia's designated rival by the ACC league office.
Johnson, a three-star prospect, was one of the top offensive tackles in the nation, according to recruiting guru Brad Hoiseth: "Over at JCGridiron.com, we love Kelby Johnson. We have him ranked the No. 10 junior college offensive tackle in the nation in what is a very deep class. He has great feet for a big man with the ability to get to the second level. A sensational frame with tremendous athleticism for that big of a body."
Kelby Johnson on Louisville: "I talked to some of the guys on the offensive line and they said all they need is a couple of more 'dogs' out there and they can really win this thing. I'm trying to go out there and win a championship. I can't wait. I liked how things were being run in the weight room. They got a nice looking weight room that they're about to expand actually. The strength and conditioning coach does a lot of football workouts to get you bigger and stronger. They put a big emphasis on the way guys work out in the weight room."
