6-6 receiver commits to Louisville

A complete unknown in local recruiting circles until last weekend when CardinalSports.com spotted him on a visit to Louisville, Jacksonville wide receiver Chris Summers has given a verbal commitment to Coach Bobby Petrino and the Cardinals. Summers became the 11th prep star to commit to UofL in the class of 2007.
The senior at Ribault (Fla.) High School, Summers called Louisville coaches this week to make his commitment. A 6-foot-6, 190-pound athlete broke out with 42 catches for over 700 yards and nine touchdowns his senior season.

His video attracted attention from Louisville wide receivers coach Paul Petrino, and the Cardinals became the first program to offer Summers an official visit last weekend. The 6-6 receiver was hosted on a visit to Freedom Hall by junior wide receiver Harry Douglas.
"I went up there last weekend and had a great time," Summers told Chase Goodbread of the Florida Times-Union. "I've been liking Louisville since they saw me in spring practice, so I decided to go on and commit. [A Louisville] coach said I could try to do both sports, but that it's really hard to keep up with. But I'm going to give both a try at first."
Despite his lack of ranking in the class of 2007 by Rivals.com, Ribault head coach Arthur Mallory likes his player's potential.
"He's a big time player. With this being his first full year, he's got so much upside," Mallory said. "When he actually gets involved collegiately, whether it is going to be football or basketball if he ever decides to do one, I think he will be a first-rounder. If he gets the confidence on the football field that he has on the basketball floor, you might be talking about the player of the year in the state of Florida."
Summers has a similar build to current Louisville receiver Mario Urrutia. He has room to fill out his frame, and could add 15-20 pounds once he starts to concentrate solely on football. Summers earned first team all-conference last season.
