Campus Community:

There have been many questions about Governor Bevin’s announcement last Friday regarding the reorganization of the Board of Trustees. First, let me reassure you that the business of the University of Louisville will continue.

Summer classes are ongoing, research is being conducted, patients are receiving excellent care, and we are eagerly preparing for a great freshman class. We are also very pleased to be announcing today a new $5 million federal grant to the university, which will benefit many Kentucky families.

Governor Bevin has established an interim board to oversee governance of the university until a new board is selected. I have reached out to the interim board to thank them for their willingness to serve and to discuss the immediate needs of the university.

In the meantime, we will move forward according to the spending plan presented last week until the newly reorganized board can adopt an operating budget for FY 17. This spending plan is based on our extensive campus budget discussions over the last six months and ensures the ongoing operations of the university while allowing us to remain on course to meet the objectives in our 2020 Plan/ University of the 21st Century.

We have also been in touch with SACS (the agency that accredits university in the Southeast) and have assured them the university is focused on its mission and on meeting accreditation standards.

Finally, I thank you, our dedicated faculty, staff and students, for all that you do. We won’t miss a beat as we progress toward our state-mandated goal of being a premier metropolitan research university.

Jim
