Recently on the Howie Lindsey Show a discussion occurred concerning the 'best' quarterback in UofL history. Of course the greatest QB from Louisville was Johnny Unitas, considered by some to be the greatest pro QB of all time, but the discussion was about QB play while at the university, and, in that regard, Johnny U was good but not best.

There have been several outstanding QB's at UofL since I started following the Cards after returning to the city in 1970 after college. Since selecting one 'best' QB would be very difficult I have categorized them into areas where several have excelled.
The first great quarterback - was John Medaya. Before freshman eligibility Madeya led the Cards to 23 victories, the most in three seasons in Card history to that time.
The best quarter by a quarterback - was Browning Nagle against Alabama in the Fiesta Bowl in 1991. The Crimson Tide didn't know what hit them after Nagle threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns before the Tide got a first down. The Cards led 25-0 after the first quarter.
The best game by a quarterback - was Teddy Bridgewater against Miami in the Russell Athletic Bowl in 2013. After taking a safety in the first quarter Bridgewater passed for 447 yards and three touchdowns and ran for one more in spite of being removed from the game in the 4th quarter. He was 35-45 with no interceptions.
The best season by a quarterback - is a tie between Stefan LeFors in 2004 and Teddy Bridgewater in 2013. In 2004 the Cards led the nation in total offense, scoring offense and LeFors led in passing efficiency as the Cards finished 11-1. In 2013 Bridgewater passed for a school record 31 TD's and led the Cards to a 12-1 record and a blowout of Miami in the bowl game.
The best career by a quarterback - is hometown hero Chris Redman. After entering the lineup midway through his freshman year Redman started every game the remainder of his career. He was second all time to that point nationally in career yards.
Best accuracy by a quarterback - for a season was Stefan LeFors in 2004 with 73.4 and for a career was Teddy Bridgewater with a 68.4 completion percentage.
300-yard games in a career - is Chris Redman with 23 and Brian Brohm with 18. Brohm started fewer games than Redman.
The 'eye' test - goes to Teddy Bridgewater. Factoring in all the statistics and performance in big games Teddy was the best of the best. Chris Redman, Brian Brohm, Stefan LeFors and Dave Ragone follow him in that order.
