LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville defensive lineman Ashton Gillotte was added to midseason watchlist for the 29th Chuck Bednarik Award which is presented to the outstanding defensive player in college football. Players named were selected by the MFC national selection committee and these players will be eligible for consideration as semifinalists for each of these respective awards. Semifinalists will be announced on Monday November 13th and voting will commence on November 14th.
Gillotte has been one of the most dominant defensive linemen in the nation, ranking fourth in the country in sacks with 6.5 while leading the Cardinals to a 6-1 record and a No. 21 ranking in the Associated Press Poll.
Starting all seven games, Gillotte has been credited with 24 tackles and 8.0 tackles for loss on a defense that is allowing just 317.9 yards per game of total offense. The native of Boca Raton, Fla., recorded a career high 3.0 sacks in a win over Boston College and added 1.5 sacks in a win over No. 10 Notre Dame.
The Cardinals are off until Oct. 28 when they host Duke at L&N Stadium.
