Howies Good, Bad and Ugly: Post-Miami

CardinalSports.com's Howie Lindsey runs down the good, the bad and the ugly in the week that was from UofL athletics. This week's GBU focuses on Louisville's win over Miami, the smack talk before the game and UofL's new stadium.

GOOD Louisville got its third-straight win against Miami and moved to 1-0 in the ACC against a team that is picked to contend for the Atlantic Division title. This one game doesn't put to rest the years of questioning whether Louisville could compete with a bigger-name schedule, but it certainly doesn't hurt.

GOOD The Cardinals looked like the better team for most of the game - save for a bit in the second quarter - and UofL won by more than two touchdowns despite some significant miscues that gave Miami the ball twice inside Louisville's 20 yard line. Louisville's defense played really well, limiting Duke Johnson to just 90 yards for the game.

BAD Despite installing a brand-new defensive scheme with an all-new coaching staff, there were only a couple of times all game when the defense didn't look on point. One of Miami's biggest plays of the game came when all the Louisville fans (and some of the players) were distracted by a card stunt on the east side of the stadium. The card stunt was really cool, but I wonder if we'll ever see one again after Miami scored its only touchdown on that drive.

GOOD The card stunt was well executed by nearly all the fans involved. It got a little spotty around the "E" in "BE," but it came through solidly for the rest of the images. And while I am on the subject of the fans, the crowd was tremendous Monday night - loud at all the right times. The Card March before the game was one of the best I have seen in my 11 years of covering the program.

GOOD Louisville's new Lynn Soccer Stadium is so nice it is going to make other college soccer programs stand up and take notice. Louisville coach Ken Lolla told me that he believes Maryland's administration is set to announce a new stadium of their own and others may soon follow.
