Louisville lands speedy receiver Zavion Thomas from Louisiana

On June 26, six-foot-six receiver Chance Marrow announced his commitment to Louisville. Zavion Thomas was on an official visit with Marrow and Lousiville informed him that he too had a committable offer and that they would love for him and his blazing speed to join Marrow in the receiver room. Three days and a wake-up later, Thomas announced his intention to do just that with a verbal pledge to the Cards.

Thomas becomes the fifth commitment to Louisville's 2022 class and the second receiver. The Marrero, Louisiana native chose the Cards over offers from Liberty, Memphis, and Tulane.

"I just feel Louisville's offensive scheme is a great fit for me. It’s similar to the offense that I run now in High School," said Thomas.

He also added that it was an honor to be compared to Tutu Atwell and hopes to fill his role in time.

Thomas has been a standout on the off-season camp circuit. He reportedly ran a 4.32 forty-yard dash based on his Twitter feed. If his speed is accurate, and he's truly 5-foot-11, 175-pounds, those measurables are the foundation for four-star consideration.

What Thomas's commitment means

With two high school prospects now in the 2022 class, Lousiville could be done with receivers at the prep level. Last month, head coach Scott Satterfield went on the record and said he would like to add another receiver from the transfer portal. If they add another non-graduate transfer that would make three receivers on the books for next year. Astute Lousiville fans are going to ask, what does Thomas's commitment mean for Marquarius "Squirrel" White, the coveted three-star slot receiver from Alabama and teammate of 2022 Lousiville commit Khalib Johnson? He told me that "We talked about it (Thomas's commitment) and yes Louisville is still an option." White is fresh off an official visit to Tennessee and told me his recruitment is down to Louisville and Tennessee. Thomas and White are both homerun threats and Lousiville will always make room for prospects they label as such. The question now becomes, can Lousiville beat Tennessee for White?
