Axson recorded 100-plus tackles his junior and senior seasons at Lakeland, the home of former Cardinal great Ronnie Ghent, and current U of L defensive back Gavin Smart. He told us he expects to start classes in Louisville in early January and is looking forward to his Cardinal career. "I can't wait," he said when asked if he was ready to get started. "I can't wait to step out on the field in my Louisville uniform for the first time."
Since he signed, Mozell said he enrolled in a math class at a Junior College, and has been preparing for his college career. "I've been working out and making sure I maintain my weight and stay in shape," he said, adding that he was weighing in at 235 pounds and stands 6-foot-1.
Even though life outside of football has kept him busy, Axson said he has been able to keep tabs on his future teammates. "I've been keeping track of them winning and everything," he said. "They've been blowing teams out, and are ranked No. 8. And I watched them play Miami. They should have won that game."
Axson finished his career at George Jenkins High School with over 400 tackles and is described by his coach as a player who "eats, breathes and sleeps" football. Axson's father played linebacker at Miami from 1977-1980.
