LOUISVILLE, Ky. — University of Louisville men’s basketball sophomore Emmanuel Okorafor will compete in international play this week for Team Africa as part of the 2023 GLOBL JAM event in Toronto.

Okorafor – a 6-foot-9 forward/center from Lagos, Nigeria – will compete with Team Africa in the Under-23 tournament at Toronto’s Mattamy Athletic Centre.

Team Africa’s first game will be against Canada at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday, followed by a game against Germany at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

On Saturday, Okorafor and Team Africa will face the University of Kentucky – representing the United States in the event – at 1:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.

Medal games will take place throughout the day Sunday.

After joining the Cardinals in January from NBA Academy Africa, Okorafor appeared in five games in 2022-23. He averaged 4.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game before an injury sidelined him for the rest of the year.

His most well-rounded outing of the season included six points, six rebounds and four blocks at Pitt – the most blocks by a Cardinal since 2018. He also had eight points and five rebounds in his college debut at Notre Dame.

Okorafor arrived from NBA Academy Africa in Senegal, where he was also one of 12 NBA Academy prospects chosen to participate in the Basketball Africa League’s Elevate program. The BAL, a professional league launched by FIBA and the NBA, aims to provide an opportunity for the next generation of African prospects to showcase their talent on a global stage.

Okorafor averaged a double-double for BC Espoir Fukash out of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, highest of any BAL Elevate program player in the league.

The UofL women’s basketball team is also competing at GLOBL JAM as representatives of the United States. More info about their schedule in the event can be found here.
